Requesting an Item

How to request an item from the SRLF is determined by an individual’s or institution’s relationship to the SRLF. Below are the options available to the UCLA & UC community, members of the public, and other libraries & lending institutions.

UCLA Faculty, Staff, Students, & Library Cardholders

  • UCLA Library Cardholders, including ‘Access only’ cardholders, may request an item electronically to be sent to any UCLA Library location through the UCLA Library Catalog, using the “SRLF Request” feature.
  • Requests submitted through the UCLA Library Catalog before 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, may be picked up at the UCLA Library location of choice after 4 p.m. the same day. Requests submitted after 11 a.m. may be picked up after 4 p.m. on the next working day (M-F).
  • For specific instructions, go to the UCLA Library page, How to Request Items Stored in the SRLF.
  • UCLA Library Document Delivery Service is a separate service available for a nominal fee, which will copy an article and deliver it directly to you.

UC Faculty, Staff, & Students (other than UCLA)

  • UC Faculty, Staff, and Students, (other than UCLA) may submit requests for loans or document delivery of SRLF materials via the CDL\Melvyl Request system, article databases, or through your campus interlibrary loan service. See your campus library’s web pages or visit your library for more details.
  • SRLF staff respond to requests received before 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, on the same day.

Members of the Public

  • Members of the Public, who are not affiliated with the University of California, may request loans or document delivery of SRLF materials through a public, school, or corporate library. SRLF might charge a cost recovery fee for service to these institutions, which may or may not be passed along to the patron.
  • To borrow an item from the SRLF, members of the public with no UC affiliation will need to purchase a library card at one of the main libraries on campus first before coming to the SRLF. See Visiting On-Site for more information.
  • You as an individual can submit document delivery requests directly to the SRLF via the UCLA Library Document Delivery service for a cost recovery fee: UCLA Library Document Delivery Service for Non-UCLA Users Information.
  • Please do not FAX or Email any credit card information directly to the SRLF.

Non-UC Libraries and Institutions

  • Other Libraries and Institutions (Non-University of California) may request materials directly from the SRLF.
  • Requests may be sent to ZAS via OCLC, via emailed ALA form to srlf-request [@] library.ucla.edu, or by fax: (310) 206-5074.
  • SRLF staff respond to requests received before 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, on the same day. SRLF staff respond to requests received after 11 a.m. on the next working day.
