USING THE LIBRARY - VISITING ON-SITE

We Are Open to the Public Monday Thru Friday, 1-5pm

Anyone, regardless of affiliation, can come to the SRLF to view or photocopy circulating or “building use only” SRLF material. A valid UCLA library card is needed to check out circulating material, but all you need is a valid picture ID to view most items in our reading room. If you are a UCLA student, faculty member, or staff member, your BruinCard is your library card.

Our Facility

The SRLF reading room is open Monday thru Friday, 1pm-5pm year-round. SRLF will be closed for all University holidays. See our current scheduled hours on the UCLA Library's campus library information page. As our stacks are closed to the public, all material is retrieved for users by SRLF staff. Our library services are limited; reserves, extensive reference services, and morning and after-dark reading room hours are not available.
Services and equipment available at the SRLF include the following:

• A Reading Room that accommodates eight people.
• Two public terminals for UC Library Search catalog access.
• One debit card-operated photocopy machine.
• One debit card-operated microfilm/microfiche reader/printer.
• A debit card dispenser (cash only).
• A ViewScan Microfilm/Microfiche scanner.
• A Wepa Self-Service Printer
• There is no reference librarian on site, however staff members are available to assist in searching the UCLA Library Catalog for items stored in the SRLF.

Please Note: Material designated “non-circulating” in the UC Library Search cannot be viewed at the SRLF. It must be requested and viewed at the owning library. Follow instructions on the catalog record.

Tips for a Successful Visit

• Know what you are looking for: consult with your institution’s reference staff to make sure that the item you are interested in is at the SRLF, is not restricted (i.e. non-circulating), and is available to view. If possible, obtain reference numbers such as OCLC numbers, SRLF barcodes, or UCLA Library record id’s before your visit.
• Obtain borrowing privileges prior to your visit: the SRLF cannot issue or activate library cards, so if you think you might want to borrow the item(s) you are viewing it is best to obtain a card before coming to the SRLF. • Parking is a challenge: no parking is available directly at the SRLF for on-site users, so plan for a small walk from the nearest parking lot. Please see our Parking Information section to find out more.
• If you plan to make photocopies: all reprographic equipment at the SRLF is operated with a debit card that can be obtained on-site. The card dispenser only accepts cash and does not give change, so bring smaller-denomination bills if you plan to make only a few copies.
